We've seen the word ‘ORGANIC’ on food and fresh produce labels in grocery stores, and on our skin care and bath products. But what does 'organic' actually mean, and what exactly are organic skin care products?
Organic - "produced or involving production without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or other artificial chemicals."
When it comes to organic skin care, it is typically the same as when choosing organic food; products that are made with ingredients that haven't been sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and/or other agricultural chemicals.
Organic skin products are made with organically farmed high quality ingredients. On top of that, the processes used to formulate an organic product needs to be certified organic. In other words, both ingredients and processes undergo a strict and internationally approved process to quality for it's coveted status.
Why Should You Choose Organic Skin Products?
One of the key factors when it comes to purchasing and choosing the right skin care products is to choose products that help maintain 'healthy', clear, and glowing skin. Also important is that the product won't cause breakouts or any negative reactions. Using organic certified ingredients enforces these two points by sheer commitment to prime quality and care in the harvest and processing of the ingredients that go into the bottle.
Because organic skin products are formulated with ingredients that haven't been contaminated with pesticides and other chemicals, they are less likely to cause negative reactions to your skin. Aside from this, they are produced to be even more gentle and beneficial on the skin due to the selection of the finest ingredients.
However, not only do organic skin products reduce the chances of you getting an allergic reaction, and are safer for your skin to absorb; choosing organic products is a more ethical and sustainable choice. Now what does this mean?
It means that all plants are farmed in accordance with the guidelines of the certified organic bodies such as Ecocert and USDA. The land where the plants are grown will need to be pesticide and insecticide free, and away from any industrial plots. The processes to harvest the plants and to extract the butters and oils from these plants will need to go through stringent approved steps and guidelines as well.
In the harvesting of organic beeswax, this means that the farmers cannot harm the bees in any way, they are not allowed to clip the wings of the queen bee to imprison her or use synthetic sugars as substitute to natural floral foraging. So one can proudly say the bees that produce our organic beeswax are happier bees. With organic certification in mind, everything from seed to bottle needs to go through a long list of approvals to ensure the integrity of the organic products. Claiming an ingredient ‘organic’ means that from the seed to the bottle, the ingredient is free from unapproved particles such as lead, mercury, nanoparticles, animal DNA, synthetic adulterations, unapproved additives and more.
So whenever possible, choosing organic certified products ensures quality above the rest. There is much emphasis placed not only in maintaining the product integrity but that of the land, the farmers and distillers that work on it.
This is why organic ingredients and products are more valued in the market and will continue to gain more market trust in the future. And these are also the reasons why at YeinYoung, we made the conscious effort to only use organic certified oils and butters in all our Yein&Young personal care products.
